Wichita Collegiate School (WCS), a thriving Independent School located in Wichita, KS, is adding a Middle School Science Teacher to our Middle School team. Wichita Collegiate School is a coeducational, college preparatory, independent day school for students in Early Childhood 2-year-olds through Grade 12. Located in East Wichita on a 42-acre campus, Wichita Collegiate is home to just over 900 students in four divisions. These divisions are named Early Childhood, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School.

Position Description

The Middle School at WCS is a place that values the whole child and supports the unique needs that students bring with them as they enhance our school community. It is expected that Faculty place students at the center of all teaching and learning in their learning spaces to ensure the best possible educational experience and achievement for all students. The Middle School Biology Teacher will be responsible for delivering the 7th Grade Biology curriculum to students, working with both the WCS Science Department to ensure vertical alignment of curricular elements to ensure students are obtaining the necessary skills and knowledge to progress within our WCS Science curriculum. In addition to aligning with the science curriculum, the 7th Grade Biology Teacher works across disciplines to collaborate with other 7th Grade Team members to identify, plan, and deliver interdisciplinary projects, experiential learning opportunities, and any other relevant needs that arise in the scope of the 7th Grade and MS program.

As a Collegiate Educator, the primary responsibilities of a classroom room teacher include, but not be limited to, the following:  

  • Classroom Instruction and all the necessary preparation for effective student-centered learning. 
  • Support team and division-specific student activities with your time and talents. To include an overnight field trip, cross-curricular WWII unit, and other interdisciplinary units in collaboration with the 7th Grade Team.
  • Attend and participate in faculty, team, and departmental meetings. 
  • Attend and participate in scheduled professional development coursework, both led by the school and outside opportunities as identified. 
  • Additional responsibilities that enhance the student experience as assigned.

Successful Collegiate Educators have a Bachelor's degree in Education or a subject area specific to the curriculum and at least three years of classroom experience. Advanced education or relevant professional experience may be substituted for the classroom experience.

Working Enviornment: Collegiate Educators are expected to be on campus from August 1 through May 31. During the school year, school hours of operation are 7:30 from 4:30 pm; the classroom schedule varies by department. Faculty members are expected to participate in school activities to foster our sense of community.
